where to have fun in Nantes this winter? – Life in the big city

Wind, rain, clouds and ever-lower temperatures, without a doubt: winter is coming. But those who say winter say cheese, and those who say cheese say raclette, tartiflette and flammekueche! Now you know, in the Big City, we love to eat. And because we’re super generous, we’ve decided to share with you a short list of restaurants in Nantes where you can treat yourself this coming season! ❄

But first, a bit of culture: Flammkueche, or tarte flambée, was invented in Alsace in the Middle Ages. Every Sunday, the village baker had to make bread for the lord. In order to test the temperature of his oven, he rolled out a ball of bread dough so that it was very thin, added cream, bacon bits and onions and when all the food was cooked, the oven was at the right temperature! 👌

We already told you at the beginning of the year: Amour de Pomme de Terre is the only restaurant that, as far as we know, offers so many cheeses on its menu 😍 So, you will have the option to choose between: hyyyyper raclettes melt- in your mouth with a choice of charcuterie or mixed vegetables, tartiflette “amour”, poutine with cheddar cheese or pom’tatin de Savoy. We really want to try their Pom’zas: a homemade creation on a base of homemade mashed potatoes, with reblochon, chorizo, pieces of bacon and salad, or an assortment of cheeses au gratin and a walnut salad 🤤

In short, Amour de Pomme de Terre is the place to eat this winter!

The Alsatian

Open for almost a year, L’Alsacien is the first flamekueche bar on the West Coast! Local products, a 100% Alsatian menu, a smiling and warm team and delicious flavours, all in a super friendly atmosphere: this is the restaurant not to be missed. On the menu, L’Alsacien offers you nine different tarts flambées, plus the ones of the moment! Whether you’re more traditional, vegan or a fan of sauerkraut, you’ll find what you’re looking for! Special mention to La Solidaire: fresh cream, onion, smoked bacon, apples, goat cheese and honey, it’s a guaranteed delight 😋

For a kind moment, you know where it’s going!

If you like flamed tarts and want to try them all, there is Flam’s: a special flamekueche restaurant! Located in the Talensac district, Flam’s also offers many super tasty Flammkuchen, such as La Viking (red onion, smoked salmon, fresh tomato, fresh dill, lemon wedge – the flavor combination is crazy) or La Primeur (red onion, goat cheese). , courgettes marinated in olive oil, fresh tomatoes, a touch of pesto and chives). But the restaurant also offers typical Alsatian dishes, such as spaetzles with bacon or chicken. Our favorite are Papapa’s Galettes: potato pancakes accompanied by a delicious fromage blanc with herbs and a green salad, a kind of mini raclette!

There is something to salivate over 🤤

Creperie La Fleur de Sel

Here we address those who are a little less greedy and a little more in a hurry. We are still with raclette and tartiflette but this time with Breton pancakes (our favorite dish and yours too, we know 😉). At La Crêperie La Fleur de Sel located in Bouffay, you will have the opportunity to taste two absolutely delicious recipes: tartiflette (onion, potato, reblochon, smoked bacon) and raclette (potato, raclette cheese, serrano ham), the perfect compromise for entertaining quickly!

You will have understood, 100% cheese restaurants, there are few in the City of Dukes, but they are worth it. We hope that thanks to this little guide, you can spend a good time in the heat to fill your belly in this rainy weather. Don’t hesitate if you have other addresses to complete this list, we’re all ears! 😎

And if you want to have a maxi raclette with all your friends, there are still a few places left for the giant raclette at Décadense! But a word of advice, hurry…
